SEAAEYC was awarded $5M from Senator Lisa Murkowski to build a multi-agency nonprofit family center. This project is a long-held vision of SEAAEYC and the Juneau Partnerships for Families and Children (PFC), a group of nonprofit and state agencies whose programs support families. The center is being developed to meet the needs of families in the community, emphasizing accessibility of resources.
The center will be built in phases.
Phase One will include a large childcare center. This will help address the lack of childcare in Juneau and also house the AEYC Apprenticeship Program. -a new program that offers on-site training, education, and an occupational endorsement upon completion. Phase one will also include offices for partner agencies to co-locate to offer streamlined service delivery to clients, and an indoor playground for young children.
Phase Two will include a commercial kitchen and dining hall, meeting spaces for events and training, a children’s art studio, and a children’s museum. These facilities will function both as a community resources and income generating activities to fund our programming.
Phase Three will include temporary housing options for apprentices, along with on-site accommodations for key members of center's staff.
Additionally, there will be community gardens to teach healthy nutrition and STEAM education.
As we move forward with this project, we will be forming a steering committee comprised of community members and developing a capital campaign. Please direct questions or comments to Nikki Love, SEAAEYC Creative Director, nlove@aeyc-sea.org, 907-789-1235.
