Class Descriptions:
MOTHERHOOD IS SACRED (MIS)
This is a 12-week session, and attendance can start at any week within the series. The MIS program provides mothers with a safe and respectful environment. This program helps mothers strengthen their families through responsible parenting, encourages participants to use critical thinking, and focuses discussion on choice, wisdom, self-identity and relationships. All tribal citizen mothers (and non tribal) are encouraged to attend (married, widowed, single or divorced). Childcare, field trips and dinner are provided. This class is open to the public, but preference is given to Tlingit and Haida TANF clients. Enrollment is open, which means that you can join the class at any time within the series.
CIRCLE OF SECURITY (COS)
COS classes run for 6-8 weeks. Trained facilitators share information in a small group, discussion format. Topics include: understanding your child’s emotional world by learning to read their emotional needs, supporting your child’s ability to successfully manage emotions, enhance the development of your child’s self esteem, honor your innate wisdom and desire for your child to be secure & to develop links to needed community resources. Childcare (or a childcare stipend) and snacks or a meal are provided. *Note: Each class builds on the knowledge from the previous classes, so it is essential that you register for the full set of weeks.
NURTURING PARENTS PROGRAM
The Nurturing Parenting Programs work with the whole household to build nurturing skills. Each family gets a plan for support and learning based on their families unique needs. We strive to help parents make sure that they are getting their needs met so they can show up in healthy ways. The work is done through a combination of one-on-one sessions with the family, as well as group sessions with other families. By building nurturing skills, we focus on the positive and take concrete steps toward healthier family dynamics. These programs are trauma-informed and evidence-based, with a 35-year track record to back them up. JAMHI Family has a trained facilitator offering both the core program and the program designed for Families in Substance Use, Treatment & Recovery. If you are interested in participating or learning more, please call at 907-463-6877.
