parents as teachers
What Juneau parents are saying about Parents as Teachers:
“I like getting information about his development: what to look forward to, the tips to help him and all the activities. Plus, it's nice to get reassurance that we're doing things right!" “As a first time mother, I’m finding out that knowledge is power. Having the support and additional information about things to do with him helps me to be a more confident parent." “The visits are convenient and comfortable - we don’t have to be in a big hurry or rush to be somewhere on time. Also, it can be hard to meet people in Juneau and the Group Connection meetings have been great for meeting other people with young children.” “Being a first time parent and not having my family in town, it’s good to feel encouraged and supported. Plus, I like the new ideas for activities and playing." |
What is Parents as Teachers? Parents as teachers is a free, voluntary home visiting program for any pregnant family or family with a child up to age 3. How does it help? Families in the PAT program report they feel more confident in their parenting skills, experience less stress from parenting and know more about what behaviors to expect from their children. Children in the program do better in school and are more advanced at age 3 in language, social development, problem solving and other cognitive abilities. What does it look like? Once a month, your home visitor schedules a one hour visit with you and your child at your home or in the community. Your visitor brings a fun activity for you and your child to do together, information tailored to your child’s specific age, and ideas of events happening around town you and your child can do together. How do I get started? To sign up for PAT, please fill out this ONLINE FORM or email to ethompson@aeyc-sea.org. Want to find out more? Call Southeast Alaska AEYC at 907-789-1235, or 907-209-9908. |
