Big News! SEAAEYC is developing a nonprofit family center
SEAAEYC was recently awarded $5M from Senator Lisa Murkowski to build a
multi-agency nonprofit family center. This project is a long-held vision of SEAAAEYC and the Juneau Partnerships for Families and Children, a group of nonprofit and state agencies whose programs support families. The center
is being developed to meet the needs of families in the community, with an emphasis on resources for children ages 0-8.
SEAAEYC and the Juneau Partnerships for Families and Children have collaborated around family supports for over 26 years, but services are spread across the community and sometimes hard for families to navigate. The partners offer a variety of programs including parenting classes, developmental screenings, kindergarten readiness strategies, early literacy opportunities, family fun nights, mental health consultations, and community networking opportunities. We are excited to bring all of these resources together under one roof to better serve Juneau’s families.
The space is envisioned to include; offices, a child care facility, lending library, commercial kitchen and dining hall, meeting spaces for events and trainings, children’s art studio, community gardens, an indoor playground, and a children’s museum. Click here to take a look at the concept drawings of the Family Center.
As we move forward with this project, we will be reaching out to community members to learn about what offerings they would like to see included in the building. If you are interested in supporting this project, stay tuned for details about our capital campaign.
