CCFP FAQ'sFrequently Asked Questions -about the AEYC Child Care Food Program

Allergies- Children who have allergies and can not eat any food components required in a meal MUST HAVE a MEDICAL STATEMENT from a medical professional- stating the allergy AND the alternative food to be given in replace of that missing food component. Example: Dairy Allergy- alternative rice, or soy milk.

Meal Service- Plate Service- is when a provider pre-plates a child’s meal with all required food components, and quantities required by USDA.
Family Style- when provider places bowls of all food components with adequate quantities to feed all children on the table, and children serve themselves. Providers are required to verbally encourage children to try all food components and to offer seconds. You may use both serving styles as long as providers are encouraging to try all foods and seconds to meet USDA standards.

Meal Service- IF you are picnicking away from your childcare home you MUST POST a note on your door, or call into the office and let CCFP know. You must also make a note on EITHER your menu or tally.

Attendance Records- All providers, (licensed, approved and approved relatives) enrolled in the USDA food program MUST have an daily attendance record detailing actual in and out times for ALL children in care.

Enrollment Forms- All children MUST have a CCFP current enrollment form. No enrollment = No $$$$

Peanut Butter is considered ½ of the meat or meat alternative for lunch and supper. You MUST serve a second meat or meat alternative to receive credit. (cheese, yogurt, beans etc.)

Jam, jellies, jello, pudding, pickles, olives, onions, cakes, cupcakes popcorn, bacon, cream cheese, most canned soup, all canned spaghettios, ravioli are not creditable foods on the program. This is only a partial list but most common mistakes.

Potato’s are a vegetable NOT a bread or bread alternative.

Breakfast cereals containing 6 grams of sugar or less may be credited at breakfast. Cereals containing 9 grams of sugar or less may be claimed at snack only.

Infant foods- Vegetable and meat combination jarred baby food is not creditable. Prepared infant jarred cereals, infant desserts, cobblers, puddings etc. are not creditable foods.

Substitute Providers- Are required to have CCFP training, if serving or preparing a USDA CCFP creditable meal. (see me if any ?)

Record Keeping- You MUST record your menus and tallies DAILY.

Submitting Menu & Tally- You MUST submit menus and tallies by the 5th of the month.

Reimbursements- AEYC - CCFP will not return calls requesting information about when food program checks are in. We receive payment from the state which often varies. We have no control over when they are processed and have no for warning that the funds are coming.
